چکیده

PURPOSE To report non-organic visual loss (NOVL) following cataract surgery with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS After reviewing consecutive cases of NOVL diagnosed by a single neuro-ophthalmologist over a one year period, two patients reported herein attributed their visual symptoms to cataract surgery and multifocal IOL implantation. RESULTS In both patients variability was noted in visual function and kinetic perimetry demonstrated non-organic visual field loss. Initially, refractive surgeons considered lens exchange, which was avoided after neuro-ophthalmic evaluation in both cases. CONCLUSIONS This report should alert cataract and refractive surgeons to the possibility of NOVL as an explanation for dissatisfaction after cataract surgery with multifocal IOL implantation.

Compared optical performances of multifocal and monofocal intraocular lenses (contrast sensitivity and dynamic visual acuity)

The functional results (contrast sensitivity and dynamic visual acuity) of 19 multifocal (3M design) and 14 all polymethylmethacrylate biconvex monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), 6 mm in optical diameter were compared. Best corrected visual acuity was > or = 8/10 (Monoyer chart) Parinaud 2 in all cases. Major differences of functional performance in favour of monofocal IOLs were found outside...

A Comparison of Reading Performance in Patients Implanted with the Tecnis ZMA00 and AT LISA 802 Multifocal Intraocular Lenses

The choices of intraocular lenses (IOLs) available for implantation in cataract patients are multitudinous. Each option features significant benefits for visual performance and the comfort of the patients, but there are also some inherent limitations in each case. The traditional approach of monofocal IOL implantation is effective in providing adequate distance visual acuity, but is limited in ...

Comparison of Visual Performance of Multifocal Intraocular Lenses with Same Material Monofocal Intraocular Lenses

PURPOSE To compare the visual performance of multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) and monofocal IOLs made of the same material. METHODS The subjects included patients implanted with either Tecnis® monofocal IOLs (ZA9003 or ZCB00) or Tecnis® multifocal IOLs (ZMA00 or ZMB00) bilaterally. We conducted a retrospective study comparing the two types of IOLs. The multifocal group included 46 patient...
